The Amelia Rieman Opera competition, established in 1989 as an annual competition, is designed to
identify exceptionally talented opera singers enrolled at the U of A and to assist in their professional
development.To qualify, applicants should have a voice with operatic potential (exceptional timbre, range,
projection, charisma, communication, and natural beauty) and demonstrate artistic aptitude. Awards are
given to unusually promising singers based on excellence in vocal performance and versatility as revealed
during the competition.
