DESCRIPTION:These awards are given in memory of Dr. Larry Day\, professor emeritus University of Arizona\,\nwhere he taught voice and opera theater. Many students benefited from his expertise\, passion\,\nkindness and patience. His professional singing experiences include leading roles with\nMinneapolis\, Denver and Arizona Opera\, soloist with symphonies in Minneapolis\, Rochester\,\nCedar Rapids\, Sioux City\, Denver\, Billings\, Ft. Collins\, Tucson\, Phoenix and Winfield Kansas.\nDirecting experiences include major oratorios with orchestras\, operas and church choir. DESCRIPTION:The Amelia Rieman Opera competition\, established in 1989 as an annual competition\, is designed to\nidentify exceptionally talented opera singers enrolled at the U of A and to assist in their professional\ndevelopment.To qualify\, applicants should have a voice with operatic potential (exceptional timbre\, range\,\nprojection\, charisma\, communication\, and natural beauty) and demonstrate artistic aptitude. Awards are\ngiven to unusually promising singers based on excellence in vocal performance and versatility as revealed\nduring the competition.
